MY FAVORITE CANDLES
After burning Nest’s holiday candle (which is, in my opinion, the best holiday candle of them all, but that is a discussion for another day) non-stop for the last six weeks, the time has come to put it away until next year. The replacement? It’s up for discussion. I know that scent – especially for one’s home – is entirely personal, but I thought I would share my favorite candles in case you’re looking to switch it up in the new year.
To be quite honest, I’m really picky about fragrance. I’ve pretty much been wearing the same perfume every single day for nearly 10 years, if that tells you anything; and though I do mix it up more when it comes to home fragrance, I still tend to stay in a lane. That lane, specifically, is one that favors clean, light florals (nothing too sweet) with the very occasional woody scent. I’m not a fan of the scents with heavier spice notes, such as Patchouli. I can’t stand anything that’s too overpowering (read: Santal26 from Le Labo is simply too much). Now that you know where I stand, read on for three candles I buy over and over again.
- Baies // Diptyque – If I could only burn one candle for the rest of my life, this would be it. It’s a popular one and for good reason: it is, to me, the perfect scent. I love black currant notes, which this one has, along with Bulgarian rose. It’s a perfect blend of floral and a touch of fruit, without being too sweet. It’s a candle you can burn year-round.
- Feu de Bois // Diptyque – Season definitely plays into my candle selection. When winter rolls around, this is the candle burning in my house. It smells like a fire burning, but without being too heavy. I also love that it mixes well with Baies.
- No. 6 // Maison Louis Marie – Someone gave this to me as a gift. While I definitely wouldn’t burn it all over the house, it’s the ideal kitchen candle. With notes of blood orange, mandarin, and tangerine, it offers a zesty, clean scent that I like in my kitchen.
