HOW I PROTECT MY SKIN DURING THE SUMMER

Summer is quickly approaching which means all kinds of changes in routine (hello summer Fridays!)  – including my beauty routine. I generally take a less-is-more approach to my skincare and makeup regimen, but this is most true in the summer. (It’s hot outside – especially in Texas! – and there’s nothing worse than the feeling like your moisturizer and makeup is melting off of your face.) This means less skincare products and limiting my makeup to highlighter, a little bit of this cream blush, and Chantecaille’s “Blithe” lip gloss

There’s one exception here: SPF. This time of year, when everything else goes down, my sunscreen use goes way up. With so much time spent outside, it’s so important to make sure your skin is protected. The key for me is to apply sunscreen before I even head out the door. I start by applying this sunscreen to my face. It’s my all-time favorite. I’ve been using it for years and years. It’s non-greasy, melts right into the skin, and never makes me breakout. Another sunscreen I just learned about that I’m loving is this one from REN. It’s a super clean, mineral option that’s great for those of us with sensitive skin. For quick on-the-go application, I like to keep this SPF stick in my handbag.

For days that I know I’m going to spending a lot of time outside, I make sure my body is protected with an SPF30 or higher. I love this lotion from Avene. It’s super lightweight and feels great on my skin. The most important thing for days like this is the reapplication. It’s so easy to forget to reapply sunscreen. This is one reason I love Supergoop’s mist. It’s so quick and easy to use, making reapplication a breeze (read: perfect for pool days!) It’s also worth noting that it’s one of the only sunscreen sprays that I’ve found that doesn’t irritate my skin. Tip: do yourself a favor and order this set. It’s TSA-friendly and slides right into my carry-on.

One last thing: the lips. I am the worst about remembering to apply sunscreen to my lips. I’m making it a summer resolution to be better about this. I’m currently stocking up on a couple of different balms, including this one (the color is subtle) and this one. If you have any favorites, send them my way!
