BLACK, ALWAYS

TOP • PANTS • BELT

I’ve never thought of black as the safe choice. More often than not, it’s my first choice. I love the simplicity of it, obviously, but also the way the right black pieces can feel incredibly strong, chic, and completely their own.

My closet has plenty of color, but some of the pieces I wear most are black: my favorite blazer, the best cropped pants, a dress that works for almost anything, (so many) cashmere sweaters, a boot (actually two) I know I’ll reach for constantly this season.

Here, a peek at the black pieces I wear on repeat—and the ones currently on my shopping list.

BLACK HALO ISABELLA PANTS

These are exactly what I want from a black trouser: high-waisted, long, and a little dramatic through the leg. They make even the simplest black top feel like an actual outfit. They are one of my most-worn items in my closet. Ringing in under $300, that’s a lot of bang for my buck.

SAINT LAURENT FOLK LEATHER BELT

A black belt is such an easy way to make an all-black look feel finished, and I especially love one with a little gold hardware. This Saint Laurent one is slim, simple, and just interesting enough without taking over the outfit.

LESET RIO HIGH WAIST FLARE PANTS

I wear these all. the. time. They’re so comfortable and have such a great fit. They are perfect for times when leggings feel too casual but real trousers feel like too much.

TUCKERNUCK BLACK CASHMERE SILK KATIE TEE

I’m always looking for the perfect black tee with a close fit and just enough structure to wear on its own. This is it. I would buy it in every color (and I almost have!) but black is always my go-to.

SPRWMN HIGH WAIST LEATHER ANKLE FLARE LEGGINGS

These are my all-time favorite leather pants. They’re perfect in every way.

LOEFFLER RANDALL HYPER BLACK ANKLE BOOTS

A clean black ankle boot is one of those things I reach for constantly once fall hits. The less going on, the better. I am obsessed with this new pair I just got. They’re so comfortable.

LISA YANG SONY SWEATER

This is one of those pieces I never regret buying in black. Simple, super soft, and endlessly wearable with trousers, denim, skirts—basically everything.

VERONICA BEARD MILLER DICKEY JACKET

The right black blazer instantly makes everything else look better. I prefer one with a slightly relaxed, masculine shape so it feels just as good over jeans as it does with trousers.

AGOLDE LEENA JEANS

I love black denim when I want something a little sharper than blue jeans without actually dressing up. These are especially good with boots.

GIANVITO ROSSI SANTIAGO KNEE-HIGH LEATHER BOOTS

Black knee boots make dresses and skirts so much easier once the weather changes. I like a pair that looks sleek and can work day or night. These are an investment but a worthy one because you’ll have them for years and years to come.

BALENCIAGA RODEO SUEDE SHOULDER BAG

I keep coming back to this bag. I love the suede with the gold hardware, and the slightly slouchy shape keeps it from feeling too precious. It’s exactly the kind of black bag I’d carry with everything, all the time.

SELF-PORTRAIT CROPPED WOOL-BLEND JACKET

Not every black piece needs to qualify as a basic. Sometimes the best ones are the pieces with a little something—interesting texture, exaggerated shape, or one detail (feathers!) that makes the whole outfit. This little jacket checks the box.

REVOLVE PERRI DRESS

This is exactly why I never think of black as the boring option. The right black dress can be the easiest thing in your closet and still feel incredibly chic. Bonus: this one is under $250.

MARGAUX THE DEMI FLATS

A black ballet is a must. They work with everything, but I especially love them with cropped trousers or denim when a loafer feels a little too serious. Margaux’s Demi style is pretty perfect – and rings in under $300.
