THE HOLIDAY HIT LIST: SHOP MY DECORATING FAVORITES
When it comes to decking the halls, there’s really no wrong move. Go classic Christmas (reds, greens, plaids, the whole glorious shebang), keep it crisp with neutrals and metallics, or lean into full-tilt festive chaos and layer with abandon. Whatever your approach, the secret is commitment. Now’s not the time to halfway it.
What does matter are the thoughtful touches: collections built over time, intentional details, and – most importantly – a mix of old and new. It’s that last one that has the most impact when it comes to giving a space to that Christmas magic. Vintage is my forever secret weapon: Etsy, eBay all the treasure troves. Glassware, quirky accents, antique gems – they bring instant charm and that nostalgic Christmas sparkle.
My mantle, for example, is lined with vintage Czech trees I’ve hunted down for years – one or two each season until suddenly the collection took over the entire fireplace (and beyond). And our needlepoint stockings from Hunt & Hope? They’re one-of-a-kind, and I love knowing I won’t see them in anyone else’s house. And just recently, I started collecting antique nutcrackers with the intention of someday passing these along to my boys. Christmas magic = Christmas memories.
And honestly, that’s just the beginning. Because once the tree is up… well, you’re only getting started.
