THE BEST WHITE SHIRTS

TOME Shirt (similar option here)

Is there anything more essential in a female’s closet than a white shirt? I’m not talking about tees (though some may argue that those are equally as important), I’m talking about the crisp, cotton poplin shirts that are forever in style and lay the foundation for so many different looks. It’s a closet icon in the best way.

I’m constantly reaching for my white cotton shirts which is why each season, I make it a point to refresh my selection. I start with the obvious: the classic collared button-down. My go-to is still this one from J.Crew. It’s the perfect fit and can handle plenty of wear and lots of wash cycles. Bonus: it’s under $70. (Fact: when it comes to white shirts, price is not necessarily indicative of quality). This season, I’m also adding in this button-down from Co. It’s worth every penny. It has a slightly looser fit and the longer length makes it the perfect top to wear with leggings. (I wear it a lot with my skinny leather leggings.)

There’s also plenty of styles that go beyond the classic button-down. I look for out for interesting silhouettes and unique details. For example, I just bought this one from Totême. I love the boxy sleeves and the oversized collar looks good worn popped, or not. For a more artful spin, take a look at this one from Palmer//Harding. I love the asymmetric neckline. (Another favorite from the brand is this super long one.) For a little feminine flair, I love either this peplum-style from Co or this one from Veronica Beard. (The voluminous sleeves on the latter add a little something extra, making it one that can transition from day to night.)

I’m eyeing plenty of others, including this one (love the ruffle cuffs), this wrap style, and this under-$100 tunic-inspired style that I just know I would wear constantly with white skinny jeans this summer.
